High Tech Gathering

On Feb 13, 2011, my extended family celebrated my grandma’s birthday cum Chinese New Year gathering. We had a meal in a Chinese restaurant.

A cousin of mine had just purchased a Samsung Galaxy Tab. She was busy snapping pictures with her over-sized camera during the lunch. (pic)

The wife of my other cousin took pictures of every dish and uploaded them to Facebook. We had to wait for her to finish before lifting our chopsticks.

The Chinese restaurant was equipped with karaoke system. Still another cousin, in an attempt to select a song, pressed her finger on the TV screen. Unfortunately, the TV screen was not touch-sensitive like her phone.

Such was a modern day, high tech gathering…

  3. but one thing i really do not like at all is - those iPhone users, forever they are playing games or FB with their iPhone - even when they are eating.. never interact with others and just keep themselves in their own world..

  5. That Samsung galaxy tab is something like the Ipad but smaller in size? Everyone is carrying something like this around these days.

  8. There will be a time when the younger ones dont talk or interact at the dining table but either sms-ing to each other across the table or sms-ing to friends elsewhere or playing games, fb or tweeting etc. What a world to live in then when all are in their very own world? High tech or high *tacked* on the wall?

Galaxy Tab does have phone function. Fortunately, the speaker saves the day. One doesn't need to hold the device close to the face.

Tab is smaller than iPad, but next generation Tab is slightly bigger.

I think SMS is out. Facebook Chat is in.

Don't play with iPhone when you are dating!

  14. I like the big print on the Tab but it's cumbersome holding it, I feel. When it was first launched, it was sold with a RM499 discount. You can imagine the queue.

I think it's bad manners to be playing on one's phone/gadget/or reading a book/magazine in a social gathering.

  15. SE Asia was very hi-tech! In KL, I went to see the hotel receptionist with my laptop because the wifi connection didn't work. She seems puzzled that I had a laptop and said that most people had some kind of smart phone instead!
