Charcoal Factory in Kuala Gula

The vegetation of Kuala Gula in Northern Perak, Malaysia, is dominated by mangrove forest. The wood from mangrove trees is often used to make charcoal.

In my recent trip to Kuala Gula, I made a detour to a charcoal factory. The picture below is taken inside the factory. Pieces of wood are smoked inside the hemispherical structures where they would turn into charcoal.

  1. Interesting. Thanks for sharing that. It is sad that some mangrove swamps are not being maintained. Muar used to have mangrove swamps along the river banks but now they are no more in sight.

KS, your link to "Sunset at Kuala Gula" does not work. You may want to check it out.

  2. Link corrected. Thank you.

I was told that, in Kuala Gula, trees are replanted, so there is no worry of deforestation.
