In a multi-racial society, this problem is quite difficult to eliminate....that's why I like Olympic spirit where all ahtletes compete regardless of race or nationality..
i think it's quite normal when a bunch of chinese gather together and speak mandarin, i am sure the indians will understand as well. of course, it's good to have someone to translate to them if you wish to involve them in your conversations. if not, it will be quite weird for chinese friends to speak english to one another right?

我从来没想过这个问题，我对华人说华语，对马来人说国语，对印度人说英语（不会说印度话），就是这样平常，拿来的寂寞言论？^_^
