I was in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, recently. It was a business trip, but I did take some time off to visit Pulau Manukan, an island off the coast of Kota Kinabalu.
Pulau Manukan is actually part of Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, which consists of 5 islands. The other four islands are Gaya, Sapi, Mamutuk and Sulug. Since I would fly back to Kuala Lumpur on the same evening, I had only enough time for one of the islands. I chose Manukan because of the availability of return boat ride.
Manukan was 15-minute boat ride from the mainland. Upon arriving at the island, I was surprised to find many tourists from China. (I will write more about this in another post.) There were also quite a few Koreans, and of course Western tourists.
Here are some pictures of the islands, all shot with my new Panasonic Lumix FH3…
Approaching the island…
The boat and the water…
A Chinese tourist looking at the fish near the jetty…
The clear water…
Snorkeling…
Bikini babes…
What is this?
Fish and my feet …
石头蟹?
ReplyDeleteEast Malaysia has much more to explore compared to Penisular....., the third photo is nice with the fishes.
ReplyDeletewow, the water is crystal-clear!
ReplyDeleteNice photos... your Lumix is not that bad lah... although it's nothing compared to your dSLR. But for a dSLR substitute, I think it's okay. :D
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how clear the water is - I have only seen that in the Caribbean, in Mexico and Belize and a bit in Australia. This is rare!
ReplyDeletethe water is crystal clear!! ^o^

This is not the best in Malaysia!
Oh Manukan island! I was there about 10 years ago... didn't remember seeing THAT many fishes back then! But water was clear... Wah you had a free fish spa session eh? LOL!
ReplyDeletewah so many fishies!
ReplyDeletewas this where CBS filmed their first Survivor? My niece and her friends went there once.
ReplyDeleteYou didn't climb Mt Kinabalu?
wow, very nice leh, can take the business trip opportunity to see around KK..
ReplyDeleteyeah yeah, i heard of TAR Marine Park.. in fact it's another gem of KK besides Mount Kinabalu..
ReplyDeletelook at the sea water, so blue and so crystal clear.. i already feel like jumping into it..
ReplyDeleteso you didn't go snorkelling, only sitting at the jetty dipping your feet into the water??
ReplyDeletehmmm, maybe you were doing some very natural fish-spa foot therapy?? hahaha~~ :D
ReplyDeleteThe water's so blue in the first photo. Soaking one's feet in the water surrounded by fish is a nice feeling.
ReplyDeleteLOL you manage to snap the bikini babes tactfully. The water remind me of Tioman. Hope with the tourist visiting, the environment can still retain the condition as it was.

ReplyDeleteYes, free fish spa LOL...
kyh
I believe you are used to this.

Not sure whether Survivor was filmed here.
Didn't climb Mt Kinabalu.

Didn't go snorkeling, as I did not want to leave my stuff on the beach.

Actually the compact camera exaggerates the colors. Personally I prefer lower saturation.

There were lots of Chinese tourists. Hopefully the environment will remain intact.

ReplyDeletethe water is so beautiful! but i have a feeling that soon everything will be polluted with more tourists hopping around...
ReplyDeleteIt is simply paradise, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteHey I just mentioned about Manukan Island on my blog haha!!
ReplyDeleteSo you went there? It's a nice place! I want to go again and visit all the other islands!! Last time I went KK, only managed to visit Manukan Island.

Awesome beautiful clear water and fishes. Looks like they are not biting (your feet). These are not the 'Alam flora'-type, I suppose. Thanks for sharing.
