Sekinchan the Rice Bowl

It was harvest season in the paddy fields. On June 13, I traveled to Sekinchan, a town in the state of Selangor noted for rice plantation.

Sekinchan, here I come…

The rice…

Working in the field…

Little house on the Prairie… oops, I mean little house on the paddy field…

Harvested crops…

Storage for rice Swiftlet farmhouse, and a local cycling past…

The weather wasn’t on my side. I wanted to take pictures of paddy fields under sunset, but it was a cloudy day. I may return to Sekinchan in December, when there will be another harvest season. Hopefully I will have better luck then.

  5. I have never stepped foot on paddy fields. That rice storage looks like some monument right smack in the middle of the field :)

  13. Lovely pictures. Thanks for sharing. I normally see padi fields when I go south but has yet to be in the middle of one.

What else is there in Sekinchan? It's an unusual name. How big is the town?

  14. Wow, that place is surely good for flying kites! Windy not?

  15. 其实我也蛮喜欢一望无际的稻田,很美呢!如果是出色的摄影师,拍出来的效果非常好。

Sekinchan is rather small. Not sure what else it has.

Not exactly windy on that day, but I may be wrong.

  18. I've watched a TV show focusing on Sekinchan before. It's nice to know that there's a peaceful place so nearby the city.

Hmm... is there any rice plantation in Johor?

Oh... now only I remember... I didn't see any scarecrow.

  22. Nope. There are very very few paddy fields in Johor, if any. Everywhere you see in Johor, if you go to the outstation districts, are palm oil trees dotting the entire land. Along the PLUS highway in the Johor side the only cash crop you'll see is palm oil.
