Melaka – the World Heritage Site (II)

[Part I is here.]

Jonker Walk…

The former Jonker Street in Melaka (Malacca) is a haven for antique collectors and bargain hunters. The area surrounding Jonker Street is also full of budget guesthouses. Everyday lots of tourists visit this place.

Despite its fame, the nationalist government of Malaysia has renamed the street Jalan Hang Jebat.

Hokkien Association...

Cheng Hoon Teng Chinese temple (青雲亭)...

The Chinese characters read "prosperity and longevity, sea and mountain"...

  1. Is that the oldest library in Malaysia?

Libraries I see these days are always housed in new big buildings.

  2. so many chinese places..too bad i cant read chinese >.<

    but no doubt..very nice! =D

  3. did u try the chicken rice balls ?

  4. shing
This is actually a new library with an old twist, LOL...

You are not too old to learn Chinese :-)

Yes, I did, but I didn't find it yummy.
I saw another restaurant with lots of people waiting - under the sun! Maybe that one served better food.

  5. Ooohh..the library looks so quaint! :)

  6. I think the "restaurant with lots of people waiting under the sun" is the famous, founder of chicken rice balls. An old building located just opposite OCBC Bank, called "CHONG HUA".

I went there few times, not peak lunch hour, is still ok.
One time coincidence lunch hour, they are so busy, and the lady boss start shout her customers. very hot temper. This experience make me never visit this restaurant again.

Actually, their chicken rice balls also not special liao. Quite oily, for both rice and chicken. And nothing else to eat, except rice and chicken.

I think, if not because of the NAME of Founder, sure they cannot survive!

  7. I visited Jonker Street also, but last year I think, you can read about it on my blog somewhere.

But how come I didn't see those historical buildings and library?... I wonder if I went to the wrong street...

  8. 宝茹
    Yes, you are right.

Fortunately I didn't wait to eat the 'famous' chicken rice balls like the other did. It was a very warm day!

You can always go there again. You will break away from you usual hot chicks photos ;-)
